The last post made here was in May? Com'on! Let's talk about The Last Unicorn. They were making a live action movie, but stopped and deleted the website because Peter S Beagle wanted more money. Apparently no one knows whether or not any footage has been shot, or if it's actually going to be a movie at all! Does anyone know more about this?

Hi there. I'd like to correct some of your misimpressions, if I may.

They were making a live action movie

Since 1999 Continent Films has been trying -- unsuccessfully -- to raise the money to make the movie. All they have ever done is a little early development work, nothing more. A lot of what they posted on their site during those years (like cast lists) simply wasn't true. It was there solely to make them look good and help with fundraising.

but stopped and deleted the website

Not so. They are still trying to raise money to go forward, and still getting nowhere. Earlier this year they did replace the old website with a new one, when Peter and I raised protests about the incorrect information on the old one and the way it misrepresented Peter's involvement in their project. (He did not approve of what they were doing, which was not the impression their old site gave.) The new site is factually accurate but kind of an embarrassment in every other way.

because Peter S Beagle wanted more money.

Peter has nothing to do with Continent and what they are doing, and has never asked them for more money. He is trying to get the money he is owed from the success of the animated LAST UNICORN film, but that's a legal matter with Granada Media, an entirely different company, and has nothing to do with the live-action rights.

Apparently no one knows whether or not any footage has been shot

No footage has ever been shot. Ever. Continent has never even had a shooting script or any contracts with any actors or enough money to do any of that, let alone start shooting.

or if it's actually going to be a movie at all! Does anyone know more about this?

Peter and I are working on getting the rights back and getting the movie made. You can find more information at:

Wow...you're...Peter S Beagle's business manager and you read LJ! How exciting! I have to admit, most of my info on this post came from Wikipedia. Also, I found the new website after I posted this. It was obviously not the old one, so I couldn't find it at first. Google brings up nothing if anything at all on the live-action movie. Well, I apologise for my misinterpretation of what's going on and I look forward to hearing more about a live-action movie! *crosses fingers*

I check the blogs every day for Peter's name, so I can stay in touch with his fans (after all, I'm one of them!) and spin up more and more energy for Peter and his work.

No need to apologize, none at all. But if you'd like to make sure you are getting the most up-to-date and accurate information, you should get on the email list for Peter's RAVEN newsletter. You can sign up at this page on his official site:
