It seems we've lost our mod. I have another comm I'm in that that happened to. I'm still sure if there's a way to get a new mod if the one mod from before has deleted their journal.

how does one go about becoming a mod, and what does being a mod entail. if no one else is able to take the load, id like to *sheepish grin*

It depends on the purpose of the comm, really. The only place I mod is a icon contest, so it's very limited in terms of who can post what. But generally, I think Mods set the rules, makes sure everyone complies to them, diffuse any flame wars (if it's against the rules), keeps discussion and posting going. Basically, keeps everything running. They have the power to delete posts and block members. And some mods are more active than others, it all depends. Also, I'm probably missing a lot. Try going through LJ's faq on the subject, including how to become a mod once the comm has been abandoned.
